The city is not quite excited to see Rajnikanth in animation. Both standalone theatres and the multiplex halls, where 'Kochadaiiyaan’ is released in Telugu on Friday, show normal crowds.

"See, people would like to see Rajnikanth in live action, not in animation," a manager of one of the theatres told Business Line on the condition of anonymity.

"Not quite impressive," Mahesh, who never missed the first show of a Rajni movie, said.

Vikrama Simha, the Telugu version of the film, is released in 150 theatres in the Nizam's area (covering the Telangana and some Telugu speaking areas in Karnataka).
