The fact that there is no low-pressure area yet in the Bay of Bengal would not hold back thunderclouds from pouring it down over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

In updated forecasts on Saturday afternoon, India Met Department has brought back the 'heavy to very rain' warning to bear on the coasts for four days until December 2, up to which forecasts are available.

RAINY TROUGH

The Met's morning bulletin tended to lower the grading of expected rainfall after it became apparent that the 'low' had not taken shape at the extended time.

But the Met now says that the preparatory trough (lower in grade than a 'low') had moved in from the Andaman and Nicobar region to South-West Bay of Bengal (adjacent to Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka).

And satellite maps show how. A huge bank of rain-heavy thunderclouds are now impacting the eastern coast of Sri Lanka, and some of the remnants have sailed over South-East Tamil Nadu.

While it is drizzling/raining light over Batticaloa and Vavuniya in Sri Lanka, Dambulla is overcast and Jaffna, partly cloudy.

As for South Tamil Nadu, Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, and Pudukkottai are mostly cloudy, while Chidambaram and Madurai are partly cloudy. Chennai in the North too remains cloudy.
