It appears that Tamil Nadu's good run with the monsoon may continue into January and February.
India Met Department has already forecast a normal to above normal Northeast monsoon that is currently on and would last until December.
Month-wise break-up
The latest forecast from the Asia-Pacific Climate Centre at Busan in South Korea is that this trend may well continue into January and February, 2016.
Month-by-month break up of the forecast suggests the following:
December, 2015: Excess rainfall for Sri Lanka and adjoining southern tip of Peninsular India, including southern Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Normal to above normal rainfall over the rest of the Southern Peninsula, including remainder of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and south interior Karnataka.
January and February, 2016: Normal rainfall for the entire area covered above (whole of south Peninsular India). Lakshadweep may witness slightly above normal rain during February.
Warm Winter
As for the rest of the country, slightly above normal rainfall is forecast for Gujarat, West Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
But North and North-West India and East and North-East India as well as northern parts of the east coast (Chhattisgarh, Odisha), may witness slightly below normal precipitation during December-January-February.
Meanwhile, most of the country is bracing for a warm winter in 2016 with temperatures likely to rule above winter-normal during the three months.
Also unlike this year, March-April-May 2016 will see hot to very hot summer conditions with temperatures peaking over entire south Peninsula, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, South Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar.
