Want to know how to lose weight and get fitter without having to hit the gym? No gym, no yoga and no excerise but still you can shed those pounds by just having a good sleep and eating right. That is what Umang Bedi, India and South Asia MD, Facebook, has been doing for the last 8 months and has shed about 26 kg.

Talking to BusinessLine , Bedi said he weighed about 120 kg at his previous organisation Adobe and had started developing all kind of ailments with his cholestrol, blood sugar and blood pressure all shooting up.

“I was worried about my health and was visiting doctors when a very close friend introduced me to this programme, LeanScience, where you loose weight by not gyming but by eating right and having a good sleep. It is a scientific approach to improve your health,” Bedi said adding that he was on a high fat and protien diet.

“But there are cheat days too. Like yesterday, I had Chhole Bhature for lunch!” he said.

Bedi then met Ameet Bagwe, an engineer and founder of LeanScience, whose approach is that it is all about teaching the body to maximise its ability to burn fat, while simultaneously also minimising its ability to store fat.

“Today I feel like million bucks and I have a new wardrode altogether,” chuckled the 40-year-old Bedi, who joined Facebook in June last year.

Diet plan

Since everyone has a different body type, eating habits, lifestyle, genetics and medical history and hence, LeanScience analyses blood reports to find specific clues on your inability to shed fat easily. Combining these, a nutrition plan is set up that reorients the body’s energy system to start using fat as the primary source of fuel.

Both Bedi and Bhagwe also conducted a live Facebook chat called LeanTalks to share their experiences. Talking about the discipline he has brought into his current job, Bedi said the company is on a massive growth phase but at the same time, it ensures that the employees are happy and energetic. “At Facebook, we have a programme called Fuel, wherein every team member is allowed to take a few days of break to follow their passion. It could be just sleeping or for spending time with kids and family,” Bedi.
