Bahrain-based Mixed Martial Arts promoter Brave Combat Federation (BCF) is keen to use India as a hub for growing the sport in the ASEAN region, Mohammed Shahid, President and CEO, has said.

“Focussing on the Indian market is key to growing the brand and the sport of MMA in the ASEAN region,” Shahid told BusinessLine .

MMA is a combat sport in which contestants use techniques from wrestling and boxing along with martial arts, such as judo, karate and kick-boxing.

BCF is bringing its first MMA event in India to Mumbai on April 23. “We view this event (in Mumbai) as the next step towards strengthening diplomatic, cultural and economic ties between India and Bahrain. Indian athletes have been making their presence felt in various combat sports on the international level. It is time for India to go for glory,” Shahid said.

The April 23 Mumbai fight night will be televised across Brazil, the GCC nations, Africa and India besides other countries.
