Arts Festival in Shravanabelagola during Bhagavan Bahubali’s Mahamastakabhisheka is expected to feature an artist’s camp, exhibition, live demonstration and art-based talks.

Some of the earliest forms of art in India were created in south India. Incredible works of arts, including the Sitthanavaasal paintings, early Pallava architecture, and the world-renowned Bhagavan Bahubali statue in Shravanabelagola are testament to the art heritage of the South.

As part of the grand event, an exclusive art festival — called the Shravanabelagola Art Festival — was held recently from January 26-28 and the second camp is expected from February 17-25, in Shravanabelagola.

The art festival is organised by the Shravanabelagola Math and with the blessings of Swasti Sri Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji — the presiding spiritual head of Shravanabelagola and is expected to showcase the history and heritage of Shravanabelagola in a contemporary and modern style.

Several established and upcoming artists, art institutions, galleries, and patrons from India and across the world will join hands to add another chapter in south Indian art history. With an artist’s camp, an exhibition, live art demos, a gallery roadshow across major cities, the Shravanabelagola Art Festival will give visitors and participants a great new way to take part in the auspicious festival.

Conceptualised by a team of artists and curators — Pushpa Pandya and Rajat Pandya, this festival also had a special — Art and Heritage Day – for all visitors on January 28.

“We are very excited about the art festival and cannot wait to see what these great artists are going to produce. This is a truly unique opportunity to tell the story of Shravanabelagola and Bhagavan Bahubali in a way that has never been done before. We are also very excited about showing visitors the great heritage of Shravanabelagola,” said Pushpa Pandya.

The Mahamastakabhiseka is a sacred, auspicious Jain festival held once in every 12 years in veneration of Gommateswara, or Bhagavan Bahubali. Over 40 lakh visitors from around the world, Jain leaders, acharyas, swamis, and devotees, are expected to attend the consecration festival.
