The core group set by the Institution of Engineers (India) to prepare a memorandum on according ‘nation builder’ status to engineers has recently submitted the proposals to the Pay Commission. Talking to Business Line in Calcutta, Major General S. P. Misra (Rtd), Secretary and Director General, IEI, said copies of the memorandum would also be submitted to the Chief Minister, Mr. Jyoti Basu, and other key departments of the West Bengal Government for generating local support and also apprising them of the developments.

Sharma asks trade to invest more

The President, Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, has urged Indian industrialists to take into consideration the potential of biotechnology in Improving the quality of human life and invest more in promoting original research. Rolls-Royce unit to manage power projects

Taking advantage of the opening up of the power sector, Rolls-Royce is setting up a new development company to manage, finance and participate in independent power projects (IPPs) worldwide. The wholly-owned subsidiary, Rolls-Royce Power Ventures Ltd. (RRPV) is to be headquartered in London with Mr. William Kelly as the Chief Executive Officer and its New Jersey unit headed by Mr. Dean Vanech. Operations are also being planned in India and the Far-East.
