It is shocking that the prices of cereals and vegetables have soared so high. The Government should control hoarding which is a major reason for reduced supply which in turn increases demand and hence prices. The middleman is the only beneficiary in the whole process.
Better storage facilities should be provided so that farmers can supply when there is a shortage in production. Storage facilities should be immediately provided for essential items such as potato, onion, tomato and so on.

Big headache
This refers to the article “Can’t take a benign view of inflation” ( Business Line , September 18). Inflation has become a headache for the government and the RBI. It is time the Government thought of appointing a high-powered commission to formulate a new law to replace the RBI Act. The law should take into account the growth of the purchasing power of the people due to growth of the economy, and the relation between purchasing power and consumer price index. It should also give guidelines to relate monetary policies to growth and liquidity.

Future icon
Modi’s time starts now” ( Business Line , September 17) is a heartwarming article. An RSS volunteer, Narendra Modi rose to the level of chief minister from a simple Gujarati family. Gujarat 2002 thoroughly changed Modi, the way King Asoka changed after the Kalinga war. Optimism is on the side of Namo and pessimism sides the present ruling Congress. Indians are proud of Modi as their future icon.

Give quietly
Apropos of “CSR, a winning proposition” ( Business Line , September 16), poverty anywhere is a threat to prosperity everywhere. So it is everyone’s duty to give away a part of their income. Like individuals, corporates should also follow the principle of not letting the other hand know what one hand is giving.
