Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd (GACL), a city-based State Government undertaking, has commissioned a project to manufacture 15,000-TPA stable bleaching powder at Dahej near here.
The unit will convert chlorine into value-added products.
“This is the first large-scale stable bleaching powder plant in Gujarat. The project will help increase captive use of chlorine and sustain the operation of the company’s caustic soda plant,” a GACL spokesman told PTI.
Bleaching powder is a strong oxidising, bleaching and disinfecting agent. It is widely used as a bleaching agent in paper, textile, soap, handloom and powerloom industries.
It is used for disinfection, de-odorisation and bleaching of residential premises, swimming pools, public conveniences, waste water treatment and sewage disposal. It also finds applications in food processing, beverages and sugar industries.
