Jamshedpur, Mar 8 Statements of around 27 villagers have been recorded at the public hearing organised to seek ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) from the Union Environment Ministry for the proposed Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) was today held at Asanboni, about 25 kms from here.

Among others, JSPL regional officer R N Choudhury, vice-president (project) Naresh Kumar and deputy general manager Subrata Das were present at the hearing presided by ADC Ganesh Kumar.

Expressing satisfaction over the hearing, JSPL sources said the company has a proposal to set up a six million tonne integrated Greenfield steel plant in phases and 1,320 MW power plant in Asanboni under Potka block of East Singhbhum district.

The plant was to be set up with an investment of Rs 22,000 crores including Rs 5,000 crores for the first phase of three million tonne capacity.

Sources said the company required about 1,400 acres of land covering twelve villages including Asanboni within a radius of eight kilometres for the proposed project, which would be commissioned between 48 to 60 months from the date of commencement of construction work.

The company would invest Rs 1,063 crores under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), taking up projects for promotion of sectors such as education, health, construction of hospital, schools and skill development trainings etc.

The plant would generate employment for over 6,000 people directly while 7,500 would be taken on contractual basis.
