The Avengers opened with a bang at the box office on Friday, kick-starting the summer season line-up of several Hollywood biggies.

Multiplexes said occupancies ranged from 85-90 per cent on an average in key metros with some house-full shows. Mr Sunil Punjabi, CEO, Cinemax said, “The movie has witnessed occupancy on an average of about 90 per cent. The advance bookings are around 20-30 per cent for the next two days.” Trade Analyst Mr Amod Mehra said, “There is a lot of buzz around the movie on the first day. It is giving competition to the Hindi releases this week.”

Marvel Studio's The Avengers showcases the super hero team of Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeys and the Black Widow. The movie is being distributed by UTV Motion Pictures and has been released across 800 screens . The movie has been dubbed in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.

Mr Gautam Dutta, COO, PVR said, “The movie is doing better than the Hindi release Tezz .” He added that the movie is doing well in smaller cities with around 50 per cent occupancies.
