Birla Group is now practically formalised, with 21 companies headed by the late industrialist’s son-in-law, Mr Saroj Kumar Poddar, being repositioned under a unified ‘Adventz’ corporate banner.
The Adventz Group will include the fertiliser majors Zuari Industries Ltd (ZIL) and Paradeep Phosphates Ltd (PPL), the rail freight car builder, Texmaco Rail & Engineering Ltd, the project engineering consultancy firm, Simon India Ltd and a clutch of companies involved in real estate, furniture retail, petroleum products terminalling and financial services.
“Earlier, they were individual companies operating in separate envelopes. The purpose of creating a common group identity is to synergise the valuable equities of each of these companies. The Adventz Group will have a combined turnover of around $3 billion,” Mr Poddar – married to Dr K.K. Birla’s second daughter, Ms Jyotsna – told presspersons here on Wednesday.
While ZIL and PPL would be part of Adventz, Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals Ltd will be equally controlled by all the three K.K. Birla Group offshoots. These, apart from the Adventz Group, include companies belonging to the families of Dr Birla’s other two daughters, Ms Nandini Nopany (the eldest) and Ms Shobhana Bhartia (the youngest).
The Nopany family runs Oudh Sugar Mills Ltd, Upper Ganges Sugar & Industries Ltd and Sutlej Textiles & Industries, while Ms Bhartia is the Chairperson of HT Media Ltd, which publishes Hindustan Times, Hindustan (Hindi) and Mint newspapers.
