Fortis Healthcare plans to focus on specialty centres, such as mother and child, oncology (cancer) and cardiac care for growth, said Aditya Vij, Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The company, which has a target of adding 500-600 beds each year, is likely to add about 400 beds through new facilities in the current fiscal, while expansion in existing hospitals are likely to add more.

However, the corporate hospital chain is more focused on expanding in specialty verticals now.

“Our focus in terms of verticals is certainly going to be oncology… The second is to scale up the mother and child centres — La Femme,” Vij said.

The flagship Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI) already offers a comprehensive oncology program, he said, adding that Fortis is looking at adding oncology in multiple centres. Fortis has already put up a cancer centre in Ludhiana, and adding oncology centre in Mohali, besides actively considering some more centres, Vij said. “I see, unfortunately for the population, oncology growing very rapidly because of changing lifestyles. We need to continue to invest in both training and technology to ensure that we are able to serve that need,” Vij said.

The company is also looking at taking its La Femme brand national. Currently, Fortis has only one La Femme hospital in Delhi.

“La Femme so far has been concentrated in a single facility in Delhi. We intend to scale it up,” Vij added.
