Swiss co introducing new construction chemicals, tech

Sika AG, the 100-year-old specialty Swiss chemical company, is introducing new chemical products and technologies for the construction industry and for industrial applications as well through its Indian subsidiary, according to Mr Sanjay Almelkar, regional sales manager (South India).

He said at a press meet here on Tuesday that the company, which had started production in Switzerland in 1910, was continuing under the same family management and selling the product under the same brand name for a century. The company was present in 86 countries, with 12,500 employees worldwide.

He said the company arrived in India in 1987 and it had been selling the same high-quality products available in the advanced countries.

“The company specialises in waterproofing and we have a solution for virtually every problem related to structures before or after construction. We have exclusive Sika shops and the products are also available through hardware shops all over the country,” he said.

The company has five factories in Goa, Kolkata, Jaipur, Mumbai and Chennai and branch offices all over the country, he said. It has also got an R&D centre.

He said the company was selling chemicals worth Rs 250 crore in the country yearly.
