Visakhapatnam Steel Plant sold 5.66 lakh tonnes of products during the first quarter ending June, recording a growth of 62 per cent.

With the higher component of value-added steel, VSP's turnover rose to Rs 2,583 crore, a growth of 87 per cent, according to a press release issued here on Tuesday.

Sales to projects also increased to around 1.5 lakh tonnes, which is higher by 26 per cent against the numbers of the corresponding period last year. During first quarter, VSP registered 31 new rural dealers.

The production of finished products, particularly of steel bars, rose to 2.20 lakh tonnes, a growth of 6 per cent. There was improvement in some of the techno-economic parameters, including record convertor lining life of 5,135 heats in steel melt shop.

The new oxygen plant under expansion started producing both oxygen and argon. Water supply unit for new SMS, new turbo blower and several others were commissioned. Test and trial runs of main units, including basic oxygen furnace shop, continuous casters and wire rod mill, are also progressing well.

The expansion project to double the capacity of the plant from 3 million tonnes is proceeding smoothly, adds the release.
