Ajay Kapur, Managing Director and CEO of Ambuja Cements, has resigned after putting 26 years of service in the company. Kapur has decided to pursue his career outside the cement industry, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

The board of directors at its meeting held on Wednesday expressed its deep appreciation for the leadership Kapur has provided to the company and accepted his resignation with regret with effect from March 15.

Kapur said: "It was not an easy decision to leave a company where I have built my career in an "I Can" culture for such a long period."

The successor to Kapur will be announced in due course, the company said.

Kapur, an economics graduate from St Xavier’s College, Mumbai also holds a master’s in management degree with specialisation in marketing and an advanced management program degree from Wharton Business School, US.

He had joined the company in 1993 as an Executive Assistant to the then Managing Director and Founder, NS Sekhsaria. Kapur has handled various profiles such as Marketing Head for West and South Region; National Head – Marketing and Commercial Services; Business Head (West and South Region) and CEO. Prior to joining Ambuja Cements, Kapur had worked with Citibank’s consumer banking business.
