Indian Oil Corporation announced on Tuesday that AMK Sinha, the company’s Director for planning and business development, has been given additional charge of the post of Chairman of the company. Sinha will also continue to discharge his function as Director, planning and business development in IOC and will take additional charge as chairman from July 2.

B Ashok, IOC’s Executive Director (Sales), had been chosen as the successor by the former United Progressive Alliance government but his appointment hadn’t been formalised by the previous government. The Prime Minister’s Office had sought fresh views from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry on Ashok’s appointment but a final decision is yet to be made.

Sinha has been heading diversification and integration forays of IOC. “This vertical is engaged in expanding IOC’s footprints in the fields of exploration and production, petrochemicals, natural gas and renewable energy,” the company said in a statement. Sinha has also been heading the corporate planning and sustainability development initiatives of IOC.

Sinha has worked with IOC for 37 years and is a mechanical engineer. According to a company statement, he succeeded in establishing IOC as a petrochemical major with sales touching two million tonnes per annum. “IOC’s polymer business is now fully stabilised and the petrochemical brand “Propel” has received acceptance in the market. The segment today boasts of investment to the tune of ₹ 20,000 crore further expanding with several new projects at various stages of implementation,” IOC said in a statement.

IOC also announced that Sanjiv Singh has taken over as Director (Refineries) from July 1 after the retirement of Raj Kumar Ghosh. Singh was earlier Executive Director (In-Charge) at the Paradip Refinery Project in Odisha leading the ₹ 30,000 crore project. Singh has held a similar position at the refinery at Panipat.
