BBC Worldwide has announced its first 'Video-on-Demand' deal in India with DTH player Tata Sky.

The company said its programmes like Luther, Citizen Khan, Being Erica, Honourable Woman, and Luther , among others will be available to Tata Sky subscribers across eight metros in India.

“The deal with the leading direct to home provider (DTH), Tata Sky gives subscribers in eight metros in India, access to the best of the BBC’s drama and comedy via ‘BBC On-Demand’, a branded property on Tata Sky’s platform,” the broadcaster said in a statement.

Myleeta Aga, Senior V-P and GM of BBC Worldwide in India, added, “ In a study commissioned by BBC Worldwide earlier this year, we found that quality of content, British humour, and a love of original British dramas were the top reasons why people, including Indians, enjoy British television programmes.”

BBC was earlier running its English GEC - BBC Entertainment in India. But it had decided to shut it down in 2012, calling India as a “challenging market” for Pay-TV channels.
