With the launch of the locally made Mini Countryman in the country, BMW Group India on Thursday said the company is aiming to double growth in its compact luxury car brand.

The Mini Countryman is priced between Rs 34.90 lakh and Rs 41.40 lakh (ex-showroom). The new Mini Countryman comes with both petrol (Cooper S priced at Rs 34.90 lakh and Cooper S JCW Inspired at Rs 41.40 lakh) and diesel (Cooper SD priced at 37.40 lakh) engine options.

“We are looking to double sales of the Mini brand in India this year. The second generation Mini Countryman is locally produced at our Chennai plant. It marks a new chapter in BMW’s story in India,” Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India, said here at the launch, adding that the company is considering assembling more models under the range in India.

The company sold 421 units of the Mini brand in India last year, clocking 17 per cent growth and in the first quarter of this year, it has sold 136 units, growing at 15 per cent. The all-new Mini Countryman is the roomiest and the most spacious Mini yet, extending 20 cm longer and three cm wider than its predecessor, the company said.

This increased space allows five adults to sit comfortably with ample luggage space and the interior blends modern aesthetics and refined craftsmanship with practical functionality. The iconic circular central instrument panel is surrounded by an LED ring offering a colour display in 6.5-inch or 8.8-inch touch-screen, it said.

The standard 8-speed automatic steptronic transmission offers even more efficient, comfortable and sporty driving due to a broader gear spread and smaller engine speed steps, the company added.
