First Solar Power India says the pace of implementation of solar PV projects is set to gather momentum, as they are ideally suited for captive generation in power-deficit areas and for use in locations where there are groups of consumers.

The company is keenly awaiting the developments in the country’s solar sector to work with various States and developers to bring in its technology, consulting expertise and integration capabilities.

First Solar, which has thus far set up an installed capacity of 8,000 MW across various markets, is in parleys with EXIM Bank to explore the possibility of funding some of the projects.

Amit Mehta, Director, Business Development, First Solar India, said, “The country has managed to have an installed capacity of over 2,200 MW in less than three years in spite of initial difficulties in implementation of projects. But the pace of deployment will accelerate under the National Solar Mission and under various State Governments, which have come out with their respective policies.”

Speaking to Business Line on the sidelines of a CII conference here earlier this week, he said several States, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, are in the process of finalising developers.

Cluster development “Once this is done, we will be able to play a role in assisting some of the developers in implementing projects. We are looking at the prospect of developing a cluster of solar projects near industrial estates which will help bridge the gap during peak hour demand. It does make sense to work on clusters as we can implement them rapidly,” he explained.
