With the hospitality segment in India witnessing an improvement, global hospitality major, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, has increased room rates by approximately 10-15 per cent.

For the group, Radisson Blu remains the upper upscale brand and Radisson Red is considered to be the lifestyle brand; Radisson is placed in the premium category.

According to Raj Rana, Chief Executive Officer (South Asia), Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group has already seen an upward renegotiation of corporate room rates beginning this year. A similar increase has been initiated for its mid-scale brands like Country Inn and Suites, Park Inn, Park Plaza, among others.

“We have been able to renegotiate the corporate rates (for rooms) in the third and fourth quarter of last year. And from this year, there has been an upward revision in room rates by 10-15 per cent for both corporates and individual travellers,” he said.

Rana was in the city to announce the rebranding of Park Plaza - Carlson Rezidor’s only property in Kolkata and in the eastern region – into Radisson.

Market sources say the Indian hospitality sector has started witnessing some recoveries since the fourth quarter of 2017 (Oct-Dec period); with average occupancy rates improving to around 65 per cent.

According to Rana, the improved sentiments were witnessed in January this year too with the average occupancy rate being in the range of 70 per cent for the hospitality major.
