Colgate Palmolive (India) today posted 7.29 per cent increase in its net profit at Rs 132.30 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2014. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 123.30 crore in the corresponding period of previous fiscal.

Net sales of the company rose to Rs 920.59 crore in the fourth quarter, as against Rs 811.58 crore in the same period of previous fiscal.

For the year ended March 31, 2014, the company posted a net profit of Rs 539.87 crore as against Rs 496.75 crore in the 2012-13 fiscal. Net sales of the company rose to Rs 3,544.88 crore during the year ended March 31, 2014 as compared to Rs 3,084.11 crore in the previous fiscal.

“The company posted a robust volume growth of 7 per cent for the quarter and 9 per cent for the full year in toothpaste category,” the company said.

Despite the inflationary environment and pressure on the rupee, the company’s focus on driving efficiencies and reducing costs coupled with prudent price increases has resulted in higher gross margin, it added.

Colgate shares today closed at Rs 1,373.85 on the BSE, up 0.85 per cent over its previous close.
