The Finance Ministry has imposed safeguard duty on certain saturated fatty alcohols to provide relief to domestic producers against surge in imports. The safeguard duty will be valid for two-and-a-half years and would be effective from the date of levy of provisional anti-dumping duty. It may be recalled that the revenue department had last year levied provisional safeguard duty on saturated fatty alcohol imports for six months with effect from August 28. Mumbai-based VVF (India) Ltd had filed the petition seeking safeguard duty on certain saturated fatty alcohol imports, supported by Godrej Industries.
