After months of scams and CBI investigations dampening the spirits of Hyderabadis, there is a welcome buzz this week. A respite has come from the movie world. Eega (the common housefly) and Spiderman have not just livened up the spirits of movie buffs, but also become topics of general discussions.

While audiences, especially the young are familiar with the outdoor antics, exploits and sci-fi plots of Spiderman , Eega infuses life with an exciting facet to the normally irritant fly, which audiences seem to be lapping up.

Eega , the creation of popular Telugu cinema director Mr S.S. Rajamouli, is set to rake in a record collection in the first week, with estimates of Rs 46 crore since Friday already. Indications are that it would break the records of recent smash hits such as Pavan Kalyan’s Gabbar Singh and Mahesh Babu’s Dookudu in Tollywood.

The film has also heralded a new trend in distribution. “The days of film running for 100-200 days are over. We need to get all collections in the first two weeks. That was the reason the whole production crew went to town with the story. Everyone must know about the story so that they turn up at theatres,” a member of Rajamouli's team said.

The director reduced production cost by going for digital copies of the film. The cost per each copy is down to just a couple of thousands as against lakhs of rupees in the film-based copies.
