Kolkata-based start-up Creamson Intelli Pvt Ltd, which has developed English learning app myELSA, is looking to raise funds as it seeks to explore the subscription-based model across India.

myELSA uses audio-visual media and games to familiarise users with the English language.

Creamson Intelli, which was founded by Sanjoy Paul, Krishanu Guha and Indranil Chakraborty in May last year, had received seed funding of around ₹1 crore. It is now looking to raise close to ₹5 crore from angel investors by September.

According to Chakraborty, the app aims to provide a “blended learning solution” for schools and spoken English communication programmes. It will have integrated modules for students between classes 5 and 12. The app is available on Google Play Store for free.

“We launched the beta version of the app in January this year and it already has over 30,000 users, primarily from West Bengal. We hope to acquire more than 10 lakh consumers over the next 12 months pan India,” Chakraborty told BusinessLine . “As the subscription model stabilises, we will go in for fund-raising, say around September this year,” he added.

The curriculum part of myELSA follows the school syllabi mapped by the CBSE, ICSE and State boards.

The communication module has story-based learning components with CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for languages) guided assessments. It is based on four major skills including hearing, speaking and reading, and focuses on grammar and vocabulary.

While services are available in English, there is also explanation in vernacular languages.

The myELSA communication module can also be used, among others, by those taking competitive exams such as TOEFL, SAT, GRE and GMAT.
