General Motors India today launched the Sail sedan in Hyderabad and outlined plans to launch a few more models during the year, including its compact multi-purpose vehicle Enjoy by March.

The American carmaker today said it has achieved 80 per cent localisation for the Sail U-VA, the Sail sedan and the to-be-launched Enjoy. This has enabled the company to price them aggressively in the domestic market.

The company has high expectations of the small sedan segment, which accounts for sales of 40,000 cars a month and has been growing at over 40 per cent in the last three years.

“Both the petrol and turbo diesel engines for the cars are made at the company’s Talegaon plant in Maharashtra. With the manufacture of these engines and several other components, we have managed to increase the level of localisation in the country,” Sastry Vempati, Vice-President of GMI, said.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the company would follow this launch with that of the MPV Enjoy. The design centre in Bangalore has played a critical role in the development and localisation of the car.
