Japanese company Hayashi Electric is all set to sizzle the premium electric fan segment this summer. The company is foraying into the Indian market with its range of electric fans and sees bigger potential in the premium fans segment. Also on the cards is an entry into the decorative lighting products by next year.

Ashish Narang, Chief Operating Officer-India, South East Asia and Middle East, Hayashi Electric Ltd told BusinessLine , “We will be rolling out our electric fan range of about 50 models this year. We will be selling the regular or functional fans to grow the penetration of our products as well as establish our brand. But we will be more keenly focusing on growing the niche premium electric fans segment with our decorative fans offerings in the country. Overall, we are aiming to sell about half-a-million fans in the next three years.” Asked if the company is looking to manufacture in India, Narang said the company is looking to have a manufacturing facility in the country in the next one or two years. “We believe India could be our biggest market in the next two years,” he said.

Narang added, “There is a growing awareness and demand for premium lifestyle offerings in the electric fan segment. But consumers do not have access to such products also they want reliable and quality products, rather than depend on unorganised players.”

Hayashi Electric’s functional or regular fans price range starts from about ₹1,200 onwards and the premium fan range will start from ₹5,000 onwards. Price of the super premium fans can go as high as ₹1.5 lakh.

Distribution network

The company will be focusing on setting up a strong distribution network to back its entry in India.

For the low-end range, the company hopes to appoint about 100 distributors targeting consumers in the North, South and Western region in the next six months.

As far as its premium fans are concerned, the company will target the top 20 cities and look at strengthening presence of its products in the key organised retailer stores.
