Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (M&M Ltd), a part of the $12.5-billion Mahindra Group, announced a 41 per cent rise in its auto sales numbers in Kerala, which stood at 1,953 units during May as against 1,385 units during May 2010.

The Verito sedan registered an over six-fold growth, having clocked 239 units in May, as against 36 units in the corresponding period last year.

The passenger vehicles segment (which includes the UVs as well as the newly launched Verito) registered a growth of 11 per cent having sold 751 units in May (679 units).

The 4-wheeler commercial segment which includes the passenger and load categories registered a strong growth of 99 per cent while 3-wheelers registered a growth of 47 per cent.

Speaking on the Kerala sales numbers, Mr Atul Sinha, General Manager (Sales), South Zone, Automotive Division, said, “Kerala is one of our most important markets and the company is happy with the 41 per cent growth clocked in May. All the brands have been doing well, with the recently launched Verito having sold 239 vehicles.”

The company's auto sector saw a 20 per cent rise in its overall auto sales numbers, which stood at 34,323 units during May 2011 (28,488 units).

Ssangyong Motor Company, part of the Mahindra Group, sold 10,425 units in May. The company sold over 10,000 vehicles a month for the last 3 months, a 48 per cent increase when compared with May last year.
