Bengaluru-based Perpule, an omni-channel retail tech company, has raised about ₹34 crore ($4.7 million) in a Series A round from Prime Venture Partners, Kalaari Capital and Venture Highway. It had raised $650,000 in a seed round from Kstart, the seed fund of Kalaari Capital, Venture Highway and Raghunandan G, co-founder of TaxiforSure, in 2017.

With the latest fund raise, Perpule has got a little over ₹40 crore from investors.

According to a press release, the company will use the fresh funds to expand into more retail outlets across 10 cities in the next year. Perpule is working with leading retailers such as Big Bazaar, Vishal Mega Mart, SPAR, MORE, HyperCITY and quick services restaurants such as KFC.

Perpule’s app, which is now available in English, can be downloaded from Google Playstore and Appstore.

According to Abhinav Pathak, CEO and co-founder, Perpule, customers can open the app and find out the nearest retail store. They can then go to the retail store, pick up any item they want, scan the product’s barcode using the app and know all the details of the product, the offers that are available, add the items to the mobile cart and pay through the app. All payment options – credit cards, debit cards, net banking, wallets – are available on the Perpule app.

This, according to Pathak, helps customers in that they do not have to wait in long queues at the check-out counters. For the stores, it helps reduce the number of check-out counters they need to have, brings down the manpower requirement, and also frees up space for them to run in-store promotions. Perpule gets its income from the retailers through a revenue share model.

Pathak said there were about half a million users of the app right now. Pathak, Saketh BSV and Yogesh Ghaturle founded the company in October 2016. They had a minimum viable product out in the market pretty soon after that and have since been building on the product to offer more features for customers and retailers.

The release said Perpule recently launched a digital cafeterial solution for quick service restaurants, including cafeterias and food courts in corporate tech parks and malls. This allowed customers to order and collect their food from vendors without having to wait in queues.

The release quoted Sanjay Swamy, Managing Partner, Prime Venture Partners, as saying that retail shopping was the next playground for disruptive innovation and was being transformed around the world, as customers demanded a friction-free experience. Perpule had quickly established itself as a leader as was evident from the top brands that were partnering with it.
