Mumbai-headquartered Supreme Infrastructure India Ltd has bagged the contract for four-laning a 22-km stretch of State highway in West Bengal.

To be developed on a turnkey basis, the project will entail an estimated investment of Rs 315 crore.

West Bengal Highway Development Corporation Ltd (WBHDC) had invited bids for four-laning a 42-km stretch connecting two crucial national highways, NH2 and NH34.

The project will be implemented in two phases — Dankuni to Chandannagar (Hooghly district) and Chandannagar to Barojaguli (Nadia district). According to Manoj K. Agarwal, MD, WBHDC, Supreme Infrastructure emerged as the lowest bidder for the 22-km stretch between Dankuni to Chandannagar.

Thirteen companies, including HCC, Gammon India, IVRCL and Nagarjuna Construction, participated in the preliminary bidding for the first phase. “We sent the letter of intent to Supreme Infrastructure on October 7. Demobilisation works have already been started for the project,” Agarwal told Business Line .

Stating that no fresh land acquisition will be required, Agarwal added that the project is vetted by IIT-Kharagpur.

Bidding for phase II

According to him, the financial bids for the second phase are expected to be invited in November. The preliminary bidding process for this stretch is over.

Apart from developing and repairing roads, the contractors will have to construct seven over-bridges over railway lines, three major bridges and 10 minor bridges on the 42-km stretch, he added.
