A key official of United Breweries, the country’s largest beer maker, has resigned from the company citing personal reasons.
Samar Singh Sheikhawat, UB’s chief marketing officer, was one of the six top officials of the company who steered the beer maker through a major transition when Dutch company Heineken took control. It now has a 44 per cent stake in the company. Vijay Mallya’s eight promoter firms, which have been attached by the Enforcement Directorate, hold 16.15 per cent.
Sheikhawat told BusinessLine he is considering various offers and will take a decision soon. “I have spent 30 years in the corporate sector and am evaluating various options at present,” he said. Before joining UB nine years ago, Sheikhawat was vice-president, marketing with Spencer’sHe had earlier worked with PepsiCo and Dabur.
Mallya continues to be the Chairman of UB as per an earlier agreement with Heineken, which lets him hold the post during his lifetime. But as none of the shares are now owned by him, the agreement between the two is said to be invalid.
