‘Have global mindset to succeed'

One needs to have a global mindset to succeed in a global environment. Change is fast overtaking our lives. Unless one adapts to these changes — in technology and other areas — and the requirements that follow, a successful career will be a far cry, Mr B.T. Bangera, Managing Director, Hi-Tech Arai Pvt Ltd, Madurai, said.

He was addressing a one-day seminar on ‘Career Konnect' held under the aegis of the Business Line Club of OAA-MAVMM School of Management at SACS M.A.V.M.M. Engineering College, Kidaripatti, Alagakoil, near here recently.

Global mindset

He said that the process of globalisation, while bringing more opportunities, also brings together people of diverse cultures, traditions and practices; and one has to learn to work together.

Unless one cultivated a global mindset, it would be difficult to work as a team and career opportunities would be missed.

He said that after graduation, it will be an anxious phase. The real examination starts thereafter.

Unless one has decided as to what one wanted to become, choosing a career becomes difficult. If one has had a goal, he/she would know what to overcome to succeed in one's efforts.

Determination is necessary. More important is the power to communicate to the boss and the subordinates as well.

Knowledge, clarity in expression, aptitude and attitude towards work, speed in decision-taking — while bringing out the leadership qualities in the person — secures recognition and advancement in one's career.

One has also to be adept in English, as it has become a universal language, he emphasised.

Mr R. Sundaram, Director, Corporate Advisory Group Pvt Ltd, Chennai, in his keynote address said that the country lacked in the supply of quality managers in various fields, more specifically in the emerging fields such as healthcare, school education, media, tourism, food processing, etc.

This has resulted in the emergence of specialized institutions to serve the interest of each field.

Challenges

Management institutions need to take note of the paradigm change overtaking them and make their presence relevant to the society.

India is faced with too many challenges and its growth trajectory has to be understood in terms of future investment that promotes opportunities in various fields, he mentioned.
