Mr Arvind Vadra has been elected as the new chairman of Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts and Mr K.L. Ramesh has been appointed as vice-chairman. Mr Vadra, of Leeza International, Moradabad, is an exporter of handicrafts and deals in metal crafts and has been associated with the industry for more than two decades.
Mr Vadra said in order to sustain the growth the international marketing initiatives, cluster development projects and new policy initiatives are needed to be pursued more vigorously. Mr Ramesh of Sri Vijaylakshmi Agarbathi Works, Bangalore, replaced Mr Anoop Shankhdhar. He has also served as President of All India Agarbathi Association and as the Regional Convenor of Southern Region of EPCH.
In 2010-11, exports of handicrafts have registered a growth of 20.82 per cent (in Rupee terms) over the same period last year. In 2010-11 handicrafts exports reached the level of Rs 10,534 crore in comparison to Rs 8,710 crore in 2009-10. —
