Cement workers and managements have reached a wage settlement of the order of Rs 168 crore benefiting 1.25 lakh employees with individuals getting an increase of up to Rs 3,500 a month.
The agreement was reached between the cement workers’ unions and manufacturers’ associations in the presence of the Chief Labour Commissioner here on Friday.
While the workers will get a raise of Rs 2,100 for 48 months, an additional Rs 1,400 for 24 months will accrue to them. The settlement is valid for a period of four years from April 1, 2010. About 23 cement companies were involved in the national settlement.
Mr N. Srinivasan and Mr N.A. Viswanathan signed on behalf of the manufacturers’ association while the employees were represented by Mr G. Sanjeeva Reddy and Mr N. Nanjappan of the INTUC, Mr Hari Shankar Sharma (BMS), Mr R.A. Mittal (HMS), Mr H. Mahadevan and Mr G. Obulesu (AITUC), Mr Dipankar Mukherjee (CITU) and Mr Rathina Sabapathy (LPF).
