For the Puja season starting in October, travellers from West Bengal may just get to taste sumptuous Bengali cuisine sitting in a hotel near Kovalam beach in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
They may enjoy the serene sea beach at Vizag, go on a river cruise on the Godavari and trek to Araku in one trip. A sojourn in a jungle in Chhattisgarh can be had for up to 25 per cent less this time.
Various states are offering lucrative travel packages to tap the country’s largest chunk of tourists — from West Bengal — this October-November season.
With wanderlust Bengalis accounting for over 20 per cent of the inbound travellers, State tourism boards are going all out to make an effort to woo them during the upcoming festival season.
Kerala
Kerala, for instance, intends to find a way into the hearts of the Bengali traveller, through his stomach.
The State Government is urging private and State-run hotels and guesthouses to provide Bengali cuisine in the October –November months.
Our State Government has requested all the private and State-run hotels to provide Bengali cuisine in October-November season as many Bengalis travel to Kerala during those two months, a retired Joint Secretary of Kerala Tourism, who came to a national travel fair in Kolkata, said.
This apart, hoteliers in Kerala are told to offer at least 30 per cent discount on accommodation during this period, he added.
Andhra Pradesh
The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) has unveiled a special 10-day package at the travel fair being held in Kolkata.
The package will offer a whole gamut of itineraries covering river cruise, sea beach stay, trekking, religious and cultural tours between Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, according to Ms Chandana Khan, Special Chief Secretary of APTDC.
A competitive tariff would be announced soon for this package, she said.
Chhattisgarh Tourism
Chhattisgarh too is gearing up to provide serious competition to the southern India destinations.
These apart, Chhattisgarh is offering a 25 per cent discount to travellers from West Bengal at the fair.
Lucrative packages too will be on offer, keeping in mind the Bengalis travell during the October-November months, Mr P. Sen Bhowmick, General Manager of Chhattisgarh Tourism Board, said.
He pointed out that the State registered 200 travellers from West Bengal since April and was expecting a major footfall this Puja.
