Keeping in view the difficulties faced by IIM graduates in pursuing further education in foreign countries due to the management diplomas awarded to them, IIMs would soon be awarding degrees to its students.
“IIMs will be awarding degrees to IIM students in place of diploma. The attempt will increase their acceptability all over the world,” the Union HRD Minister, Mr Kapil Sibal, told reporters after a meeting of IIM Directors at IIM Lucknow.
At the meeting there was consensus among IIM Directors to award degrees, he said, adding that the modalities for this would be worked out soon.
About the need of degrees, the Minister said that in foreign countries the diplomas awarded now were not considered for pursuing research, etc.
