The Chief Minister, Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa, has announced that there will be no Posco steel plant at Halligudi village in Mundargai taluk in Gadag district.
The Chief Minister after seeing huge protests from farmers and seers of powerful Lingayat mutts of north Karnataka said, “If farmers refuse to give land voluntarily, land will not be taken forcefully and the project will be shifted elsewhere.”
The State Industries Minister, Mr Murgesh Nirani, however, is preparing ‘Plan B' to accommodate Posco steel plant in the neighbouring Bagalkot district. Mr Nirani said the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) has already identified stretch of barren land in the district.
Earlier in the day, former Chief Minister, Mr H.D. Kumaraswamy, has alleged that the Chief Minister, Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa, and Industries Minister, Mr Murugesh Nirani, had received a kickback of around Rs 600 crore to allow Posco to make a profit of Rs 1.2 lakh crore.
