If you are a nature lover and enjoy watching Blackbucks in the wilderness playing hide and seek with people around, Blackbuck Resort, is something you could consider possibly next time you are planning an outing.
Peacocks, beautiful feathered song birds, black hare, wild boars and porcupines could be seen in the grasslands and forests near the resort located in Karnataka about 18 km from historical Bidar on the AP-Karnataka border.
‘Wild' visitors
Langurs and birds such as sand grouse, doves, robins, red-vented bulbuls and kites can be spotted in the resort. As if this is not enough, kingfishers, egrets and spot-billed ducks are regular visitors to the Vilaspur lake near the resort. The Blackbuck Resort has been developed by Jungle Lodges & Resorts Ltd, a Government of Karnataka undertaking, which specialises in wildlife and adventure tourism teaming up with the Forest Department.
“This is the 16 such resort developed by us and we plan to come up with three more resorts within a year. Nearly 25 per cent of the visitors to our resorts come from abroad,” said N.D.Tiwari, Managing Director of Jungle Lodges and Resorts Ltd.
Rising numbers
“Love for nature will never die. More and more people living in the urban concrete jungles crave for lung space and break out to holiday and relax. A good number among them enjoy being in the wild and to watch animals in their natural habitat. Our experience has shown the number of people visiting such resorts is growing by each passing year,” he said.
The Blackbuck Resort is concealed behind a barren façade located between the Honnikeri river forest and the Vilaspur lake. The resort currently has 18 cottages dotting the lake periphery.
