Gujarat Ecology Commission, an autonomous body of the Department of Environment and Forest, Government of Gujarat, will organise the country's first national-level conference on coastal zone management here on April 16 and 17.
GEC, as the State project management unit for the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) project, will organize the two-day conference, ‘ICZM 2011: Towards Sustainable Coastal Zone Management', with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Gujarat State Council as a partner, according to a release here today.
Key officials attending the meet include those from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, World Bank, Directorate of Society of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (SICOM), the Project Directors of West Bengal, Orissa and members of Project Executing Agencies (PEAs) of all three States where the ICZM project is under implementation, as also from the coastal states of India.
The conference will create a platform for various stakeholders and experts to share the best practices across the country in the domain subject and brainstorm upon the possibilities and opportunities in order to develop an actionable roadmap for effective coastal ecosystem management of the country.
