Salil Bhandari, President, PHD Chamber, said the expectations of over nine per cent growth in 2011-12 and estimates of even faster growth of the economy in the next two decades look impressive but subject to serious reforms in agriculture and infrastructure sectors. In infrastructure sector, telecommunications is performing much above targets, but power, roads and bridges are not even close to the targets. Government should provide a clear roadmap to fill the gaps and investments should be accelerated for addressing delays, cost overruns and regulatory and pricing impediments. Government should introduce new policies to boost opportunities in new areas of global demand such as accounting, legal, tourism, education, financial and other services beyond the IT and business process sectors.
