The Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, on Saturday met the board members of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) here and discussed Budget proposals relating to the capital market.
“It is customary that after presentation of Budget, the Finance Minister meets the entire board of SEBI. I had a fruitful and useful interaction with the SEBI board including the new Chairman, Mr U.K. Sinha, who has recently taken charge,” Mr Mukherjee told reporters here after the meeting.
The SEBI Chairman had during the meeting made a presentation on the functions and activities of SEBI, Mr Mukherjee said.
The Finance Minister's meeting with the SEBI board lasted for about 45 minutes.
The Finance Minister had in his recent Budget speech announced that it has been decided to liberalise the portfolio investment route so as to allow SEBI-registered mutual funds to accept subscriptions from foreign investors who meet the know your customer (KYC) requirements for equity schemes.
