In a respite from sweltering heat, several parts of Tamil Nadu, including the metropolis, received showers today even as the weathermen forecast more rains over the next one day across the State.
Attributing the rains to the formation of upper air circulation, the Met Department said scattered rainfall was expected to occur across Tamil Nadu and parts of northern Karnataka over the next 24 hours. Several parts of the city, which were reeling under scorching heat for the past few days, experienced sudden showers around noon, bringing down the mercury level.
Rain or thundershowers were expected to occur over several parts of interior Tamil Nadu, it said.
Isolated rainfall was reported in some parts of the State yesterday also. Bhavani Sagar in Erode district recorded the highest rainfall of seven cm in the past 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. today.
