The Annual Plan for Karnataka for the year 2011-12 was finalised at Rs 38,070 crore at a meeting here between the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and the Chief Minister, Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa.

Allocation

Compared with the current year, allocations have been increased for agriculture (63 per cent), irrigation (55 per cent), energy (31 per cent), rural development (22 per cent), and housing (33 per cent).

Farm growth

Mr Yeddyurappa said the agriculture growth rates in Karnataka, which had been of serious concern on account of the frequent droughts and the floods in the last 10 years, have shown marked improvement.

He said the advance estimates of foodgrain production of 125 lakh tonnes for 2010-11 are an all-time record for the State.

Growth rate high

Earlier, commenting on the performance of the state, Mr Ahluwalia said that Karnataka was a strong performing State but witnessed fluctuation in the growth rates.

It had become one of country's global economic players owing to its various industries in the field of electronics, software, biotechnology and other small and medium scale industries.

The State had witnessed a very high growth rate (in terms of gross state domestic product at constant prices) of 12.92 per cent during 2007-08 which had declined sharply to 5.08 per cent during 2008-09, he added.
