The rupee continues to trade firm for the third consecutive day on Thursday, when it gained another 13 paise to Rs 45.00 a dollar in the morning trade on banks selling the US currency on account of its weakness in the overseas market.
At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the local currency opened higher at 45.06/07 a dollar from its last close of 45.13/14 and firmed up further to 45.00 per dollar before quoting at 45.09/10 per dollar at 10.30 a.m.
It moved in a range of 45 per dollar and 45.12 per dollar in the morning deals. The US dollar index fell for the third day in a row in New York market yesterday, to its lowest in more than a week.
