Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (Kassia), an industry body for 6.5 lakh small industries, demanding waiver of trade licensing and reduction in rate of property tax in urban areas, has threatened to boycott the Global Investors Meet (GIM) scheduled in Bangalore on June 6 and 7.
Mr Prakash N. Raiker, president, Kassia, told reporters that small-scale industries (SSI) sector is not in its entirety a commercial proposition. In fact, it is an employment and revenue generating mechanism through self-employment, which is to be encouraged through motivation and incentives by looking at it as a vocation from a developmental and realistic angle.
“The association feels that since the SSIs are governed by several other Acts, the insistence on trade licence is an additional burden,” he added.
