A six-member pre-trade mission from Maryland, US, visited the Ticel Biotechnology Park, the biotechnology infrastructure facility, to explore areas of collaboration in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.
According to a press release from Ticel, the delegation comes ahead of a trade mission to be led by the Maryland Governor, Mr Martin O'Malley, in December. The advance planning team met with industry representatives and officials to explore partnerships and investment opportunities. The trade mission is expected to focus on a wide range of areas including IT, clean technologies, cyber and physical securities, airport and aviation, infrastructure modernisation and education.
Ticel Biopark is a 1.5 lakh sq ft facility dedicated for biotechnology companies. Ticel has been set up in a joint venture between Tidco (Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation) and Tidel Park, another joint venture between Tidco and the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu. Ticel is now being expanded by an additional 6 lakh sq ft making it the largest biotechnology specific infrastructure facility in Asia. The expanded facility is expected to be completed by the year-end at a cost of Rs 150 crore.
