Energy Management Centre-Kerala (EMC), the designated agency to implement the Energy Conservation Act in the State, organised a workshop here on Tuesday on Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) scheme designed for enhancing energy efficiency. The workshop was held in association with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, a spokesperson for EMC said. The BEE has notified certain industries as ‘designated consumers' as part of implementing the Energy Conservation Act.
PAT is a market-based mechanism to enhance energy efficiency among designated consumers and drawn up by the BEE.
It is part of the National Mission on Enhanced Energy Efficiency, one of the eight missions planned under the Centre's National Action Plan on Climate Change.
PAT lays out steps for setting up specific energy consumption targets for each industry, reduction of energy intensity and issue of energy saving certificates.
TRADEABLE CERTIFICATES
The energy certificates can be traded among designated consumers who have failed to meet their targets.
At the workshop, Mr Sameer Pandita from the BEE presented a paper on the PAT scheme, the spokesperson said.
Seventy-five representatives from industries and organisations took part in the discussions piloted by Mr K. M. Dharesan Unnithan, Director, EMC.
