Spot turmeric prices increased at Erode markets on the back of strong futures. Almost 80 per cent of the arrived turmeric was sold on Tuesday. “Though the arrivals decreased to 5,300 bags, the sale improved. Most of the buyers procured the good quality new local turmeric and all the hybrid turmeric for their upcountry orders. Some traders buying the new finger turmeric for their local Masala firms.
The farmers also brought good quality turmeric in all the markets”, said Krishnamurthy, a trader. The price of the hybrid finger turmeric increased by ₹100 a quintal and that of hybrid root variety by ₹200 . The price of new finger turmeric was up ₹300 and the root variety by ₹100 at the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society.
