The price of the popular fragrance Jasmine declined deep and was sold at Rs 180 a kilogram on Friday for want of takers.
P. Murugesh, President, Sathyamangalam Flower Producers Association, said that due to non-operation of vans, buses and other vehicles to Chamrajnagar, Kollegal and Mysore for the second consecutive day the buyers were reluctant to purchase the jasmine and export to Mysore and other places.
Only local buyers have procured all the 4.5 tonnes of jasmine arrived for sale.
Arabian Jasmine (Mullai) was sold at Rs 120 a kg and the Plumeria (Sampangi) was sold at Rs 30.
Rudra Gounder, a jasmine farmer, said that for plucking the jasmine and other flowers the farmers are granting Rs 50 a kg and for transport charges they are spending Rs 50 a kg. So selling the jasmine at Rs 180 is a great loss for them.
