As expected, an incoming western disturbance has dropped anchor over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir overnight on Sunday and was on its way into further east.

This would affect western Himalayan region and adjoining plains for the rest of today (Sunday) and through the day on Monday, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday morning.

A weather warning issued by the IMD said that isolated thunder squalls or hailstorms may occur over Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and north Andhra Pradesh on Sunday and Monday.

Over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, north Rajasthan, west Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha, these will roll out on Sunday.

Another active western disturbance is going to affect western Himalayan region from Tuesday and adjoining plains from Wednesday onwards.

An IMD outlook said that fairly widespread rain or snowfall would occur over Jammu and Kashmir while it would be scattered over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Sunday.

The rains would decrease in intensity from Monday (tomorrow) and increase again from Tuesday.

Scattered rain or thundershowers would occur over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.

Scattered rain or thundershowers would occur over Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Gangetic West Bengal, Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh on Sunday and scale up to being fairly widespread on Monday.

Isolated rain or thundershowers would occur over Rayalaseema, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala on Sunday and increase thereafter.

Extended forecast until Friday said that fairly widespread rain or thundershowers would occur over Tamil Nadu and Kerala while it be scattered over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and south interior Karnataka.

Fairly widespread rain or snow would occur over the western Himalayan region and scattered rain or thundershowers accompanied with isolated squalls or hailstorms over adjoining plains.

Meanwhile, isolated rain or snowfall has already occurred over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand overnight on Sunday.

Towards the east, isolated rain or thundershowers was reported from Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Arunachal Pradesh.

Maximum temperatures were below normal by 2 to 3 deg Celsius over parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh.

Satellite cloud imagery showed presence of convective (rain-bearing) over parts of Jammu and Kashmir and north Himachal Pradesh.
